I lived in New Mexico for two years. And this place is the closest thing I can find the breakfast burritos I grew to love well living there. It's a bit run down and I've never been here for any other meal. But their breakfast burritos are dynamite! You have to love their chilies. It's so hard to find true NM or even Mexican chilies around KC.

I had the shrimp burrito. Although there was no mention on the menu of it being extra-spicy and I was not asked how hot I wanted it, it was SO hot that I couldn't eat it. It actually burned my lips. And the "Super Nachos" had cold grated cheese on top. Never again.

Firstly, poor customer service and long drive-thru lines (depends on what time you go). Secondly, as a CA native the California burrito was a joke. I love adobada so I ordered that and a CA burrito. The adobabda was on point, the CA burrito was not. My second visit, I ordered an adobada and a carne asada. Both were delicious. I will recommend and revisit this place, until i find a better Mexican spot with a drive-thru.

Best burritos, texacano= huge pieces of tender marinated chicken, potato smothered in cheese and a lil pico, this baby is two meals well maybe one meal and a snack Breakfast burrito= marinated steak, potato, scrambled eggs, cheese and a lil pico, all rolled together in a huge tortilla and than they give it a little grill. On the inside they have a lil salsa bar *side note* about the inside, I've known folks who have gone inside and have never eaten there again. I've been in, ordered food, its not any different than any other Mexican restaurant. Its an old building, and often their are folks who mosey in who look like they haven't had a decent meal, sleep, or shower in awhile. Ya know what though I'm there for the food, its cheap, convenient and most importantly sometimes its like the most delicious life sustaining stuff I've ever had. The inside does have a pretty pungent smell of knock off pine sol and onion though. Most of my visits are drive thru oriented, ain't nobody got time to get out they car and be bothered with standing in line. I'm actually under the impression they discourage indoor patronage as they might take your order if they feel like it and you may get your food with in the hour. Drive thru is such a strark contrast, if there is a line its moving like lighting. This place is a-ok by me

It's hit or miss going through drive thru, came here the other day and sat in drive thru for 20 minutes before deciding to go inside only to find out their drive thru beeper wasn't working. My ultimate favs here are the bean tostadas, shredded beef dripping with oil hard tacos, and the rolled tacos (think taquitos with shredded beef). All for around $3 each. Can't beat that!

It's tough to post about Pancho's. If you're a Midtowner, you'll crave Panchos late at night and end up being stuck in a slow moving drive-thru (yes, they are 24 hours, but brutally slow when they close the inside down). It's a little pricey considering much of the same fare as Taco Bell (with the same cravings). Let's call it a rich man's Taco Bell. Then there's the food poisoning side of Panchos. I've known multiple people, including myself and wife, that have come down ill after a meal here. I told someone the other day how sick I was the day after eating here and they said "you just need to eat there more to become immune to the toxins." Great. In the moment the Super Nachos (about 10 bucks) were the best thing I've ever eaten. I will be hard pressed to eat here again soon after my last misadventure. It doesn't preclude me from telling others about it because it is really good Mexican comfort food especially when you are a little wasted. My slogan would be "Get to Panchos now, but eat at your own risk."

Why is it so hard to find carnitas in KC? Pancho's fills that void. Also satisfies my craving for taquitos, carne asada quesadillas, super fries, super nachos, bomb breakfast burritos or a bean and cheese burrito with some legit refried beans. Get the green sauce and PUT IT ON EVERYTHING. Reminds me of Molcasalsa, Alberto's and Tacos Mexico in LA/OC, a little bit of home away from home. Yeah it's run down, yeah the chick taking your order is rude, yeah it's hella greasy, but that's how you know it's gonna be good!

You want to eat here. Tip: never pass a chance to dine in a Mexican restaurant that makes home inside of former out of business fast food chain. Pancho's has been here an awful long time... guessing well over 10 years based on some places I used to work that were not far from here. I haven't worked near them for at least 6-7 years but always try to make a stop when I'm in the area as I was today. I'll be darned but the chow is as good as ever here. Seriously good. The carnitas overflow the, uh, styrofoam container but that's where you stop laughing. They're tender, flavorful, and pieces have that crusty, gnarly bits thing going on that is just packed with flavor. A monster, paper thin, tortilla allows you to wrap the meat and combine with some guac or rice and beans, top with sauce and... heaven. Lots of tasty rice, lots of beans... my gawd but the portions here are huge. Finish a full plate order here and you should be rightly ashamed of yourself, and happy. If you come: it's a dive. Bad furniture, no ambiance, literally the shell of the former fast food joint unchanged in a decade plus. But the food, the food, is simply outstanding and there's plenty of it. Toss in a great little condiment bar and you have a really serious place serving up Mexican comfort food. Can't wait to stop in again.

If you haven't heard about KC's premiere drive thru Mexican Restaurant then you are missing out. Ok. Maybe it's not the premiere Mexican food dining experience per se but it is a drive through and it is darn good. It's not a local place (they have one in Salina, KS even) but it's good, hot, authentic and cheap. So it has the look and feel of fast food but it's not quite as speedy as fast food. Expect the drive thru to take 20 minutes at noon on a Thursday. If you do decide to dine in for lunch, you'll find a whole lot of sweaty blue-collar worker guys there. Everything on the inside is a little bit sticky as well, I'll warn you. The rest of the time, the Main st location (the one I frequent) isn't too busy. They are open 24/7 and I know a bunch of my friends who hit this place up at 3am on Saturdays for something better than taco bell. Oh, and their "nachos" are chips with shredded cheese on top. It's kinda weird. Don't do that. But everything else I've tried is right on.

This is a "if I don't eat in the next 5 minutes, I'm eating your hand" type of joint. We live a very short drive from Pancho's and to be truthful, I've only experienced their breakfast burritos. To be even more truthful, I probably won't venture past that. As others have mentioned, this place is pretty meh in comparison to the vast array of Mexican joints KC has to offer. With that being said, if it's a) 3am and I really need a football sized burrito to hold me other until the next day or b) 9:30am and I can't open my eyes due to the overwhelmingly bright sun and I need a quick fix - this is where I'm going to go. They gotten my order wrong, given me frozen potatoes, chewy asada and overcooked eggs, but when all else fails Pancho's is there. While it's definitely not my first choice, the next time I'm in need of some emergency food I'll wait in the drive though line and see what they surprise me with this time...

If you are from San Diego and crave the carne asada burritos the way we did, Pancho's will take you back to Cali. They are identical to the carne asada burritos that you could get at any Roberto's or Alberto's. We are so happy to have found this little Mexican treasure!

  • Chad S.

Have been a long time customer and never left unsatisfied until I ordered nachos with my meal. I got fresh chips and cheese dip that looked like water with yellow food coloring. The food is usually solid but I would STRONGLY advise AGAINST ordering any nachos.

  • Michelle B.

Not bad... I had heard good things about the food here. I thought it was okay but nothing stellar or outstanding about it requiring a special trip. The shredded beef tacos were probably the best thing that I tried but were extremely greasy. It's hard for me to look past that. On the bright side, they did have Mexican drinks like are what's available in Southern California (horchata and pina). Took a long time to waited on at the counter in the early afternoon...

What are you looking for? That is the first question you should ask yourself before entering Panchos... It is not a "Northern Cali" burrito... Whatever the HELL that is... No beans No rice. It IS a "San Diego" burrito... Whatever the HELL that is... No beans No rice. You want a clean organic burrito... Go to Chipotle. Do you want a chewy fried tortilla with TONS of meat and grease? *maybe too much grease* THIS IS YOUR PLACE! Ive had the carne asada burrito. Just lots of meat with their own guac sauce. The tortilla was nice and chewy and lots of meat. Had the Chorizo breakfast burrito... Lots of fries (potatoes) and eggs and chorizo... The only grip here is they need to cook the chorizo down and press the grease out more. I had that thing stood upright and by the time i got down to the bottom... The tortilla was red with grease... I still ate it!! AND IT WAS WONDERFUL! Had the Chicken and potatoes and sourcream burrito. It was heavy. Like i worked out a little before i ate the damn thing. It was actually rather quite good. So... Youre gonna get greasy food. Youre gonna get chewy tortillas. Youre here because you want that stuff! If not... leave and dont write crap reviews about a place you know what youre getting yourself into in the first place.

I got the chicken taco meal. It was good but service was slow. They did not seem to have enough people working. I liked the queso but the salsa that you get your self did not look like it was chilled properly. I did not try it

    (3)
  • Mark G.

So so, the beef taco was very good but the asada was bad. Place is open 24 hours that is nice to get a fix. But I am not sure how good this place really is after how bad the asada was. Salsa was alright, nothing too special. Not too sure that this place lives up to its reviews, would like to explore more of KC mexican food scene to see what this is being held up against.

Huge burritos. Lots of choices. Breakfast burritos my favorite. Several those to choose from. Great enchiladas. Asda fries to die for. Great 24/7 place. I will keep coming back! Rare drive through with great service.

  • Keanon L.

Everything I've gotten in the drive through is flavorful enough, but slightly bland, and it never fails that the next day my guts feel like I've eaten an old dish sponge with hot sauce on it. Make no mistake. This is emergency food. Like "trying not to fall asleep after the bars in the drive-thru" emergency. It's better than Taco Bell by a long shot, but there's not much competition there. Pancho's is also somehow a midtown staple. To be fair, the experience eating inside is far better and the food quality seems better, along with the cool salsa and pickled veggie bar they have. Prices are very good. Also to be fair, I'll probably eat here again some night soon after one too many Miller High Lifes and will praise the name of Pancho's when I get home with it from the drive thru and eat it in front of re-runs of How I Met Your Mother all by myself.

  • Faith B.

Cheap burritos. Drive through. Open late at night. What's not to enjoy? Actually, I've been here a couple times now. Prices are very affordable. Service is very fast late at night. Weirdly, service is lackadaisical and kind of slow during the day on weekends. Plenty of veggie options and lots for meat eaters to love. I expect to be a regular.

Authentic Mexican cuisine! I can't say enough good things about this place. Both the Lenexa and KC locations were AMAZING.

Panchos gets four stars, and that's because it solidly delivers for what it is. I actually hit the joco locations more, on 87th just off 35 and Olathe on Santa Fe also just off 35. Not sure if ownership is exactly the same or not, but the menus are very similar. The good: the flour tortillas are excellent, the stretchy and fresh kind. I am a big fan of being able to get a potato egg and cheese burrito for lunch or dinner or at midnight. The carnitas are usually very good. Big fan also of the crunchy little rolled fried taquitos with guacamole and lots of shredded lettuce. Lately i have a jones for the american-style chicken tacos on a crunchy fried corn tortilla shell, also with lots and lots of shredded iceburg. The food is very basic, not at all fancy. Good salsas, I think the green avocado is especially yummy, fairly hot. The bad, well, it can be greasy. The lettuce can be pretty watery, but hey, at least they washed it. The meats are not the most tender, it's cheap cuts and priced accordingly. I don't really think the microwaved enchiladas are worth the calories. But after a long work day, driving home at 11, or after being scolded in court at Jackson Co. in KCMO by some judge at 9 in the morning, I'm sure glad I can get a lovely big fresh tortilla wrapped burrito texano, chicken and potatoes and sour cream, no substitutions, for 5 bucks, with all the radishes and pickled jalapeno carrots I care to pile on it.

  • Kathryn P.

Something is magical about their tortillas. They give you a bunch of food for your money. It's not quite as good as a typical sit down mexican place but miles better than Taco Bell. If you like breakfast burritos this is the place to go.

  • Tanner C.

Got the California burrito and it was a waste of 6 dollars, the potatoes were raw and cold and had the strangest taste of dish soap. I said multiple times to my friend that the potatoes had a strange taste to them like dish soap. Also, the steak was chewy. I would have rather eaten candle wax then have to go through this again. I ended up throwing it out the window after three bites. I tried in those three bites to tell myself that "it is going to get better" but it never did. Having just moved here to Kansas City, I will never return to panchos and take my money to other fine Mexican food establishments, such as ricos tacos . I guess lesson learned, never order a California burrito in Missouri.

It has been a while since visiting this particular Poncho's. Wow, somewhat surprised at the updating and cleaning. Unless you're bi-lingual, I still see a few issues with getting the order correct. Oh well. I don't care because Pancho's still serves up a mean ass burrito. As with the other locations, I'm not a huge fan of the quality of meats served at Pancho's. Too much fat and grizzle. It sounds like this location still attracts the late night drinkers and smokers (hint hint) that get the munchies. Therefore, I'm sure the grade of meat matters very little. As Matt E said, Pancho's is the classic "gut-buster". Couldn't have said it better. The safest bet on the menu are the breakfast burritos. Kinda hard to destroy eggs, potatoes, chorizo, or ham. The bacon will sometimes have way too much fat. Request the bacon well well done. Weather or not that happens is an entire different subject. Get some grilled onions and peppers on the burrito. Throw on a little cheese and some spanish rice.......Yikes, you have a winner with that burrito. I 100% hate their guacamole. More like purred avocados with a milk shake consistency. Some people love the stuff, just not me. The salsa bar is actually really good. Plenty of choices. The prices are spot on for the amount of food you get. Pancho's has grown into a midtown staple and should thrive for years to come.

Legit Mexican drive through open 24 hours -what's not to like, folks!? Pancho's is great, cheap, fast, delicious, and open no matter what time you head home from the bars. Here's a trick I picked up from a friend - your only two options are fish tacos (these might seriously be the best in town) and the California burrito. Order those and then tell your friends not to look at you as you chow down.

  • James D.

I finally tried this place. It was alright, the food was solid and about what I expected, I can see this would make an epic late night drunk snack. I might go back but I know there are other options that I would enjoy equally if not better. The place isn't as clean as I would have liked. Paper plates and silverware, plastic cups. But it is cheap and authentic. A better choice than taco bell.

  • Leonard L.

Filthy store, high prices, terrible food, awful service. Ive tried this place a few times. The first few times i couldnt get anyone to talk to me so i just left. This most recent time i actually got some erm "food" from them. They shorted my order by 1/2, which was actually something of a favor once i saw what they'd put in the box. Do NOT attempt to eat at this establishment. What a shame too, KC could really use a decent taco joint.

    (1)
  • Stacie E.

Great big portions bigger then chipotle The pricing is what you would expect at a sit down Mexican place. The atmosphere is more like a fast food place. Think older taco buano style ordering. Friendly enough. If your late at night they pretend not to speak English. Lots of parking. It's not anything super but it's not bad in the least. It's one of those places I can take it or leave it. If it was cheep I would probly eat there all the time.

  • Meghan M.

Finally had my first meal here, as opposed to the bite taxes I would take when I was the DD to Pancho's. This visit also marked my first time here during the daylight. I prefer going during the dim hours, as a means of hiding the less than stellar atmosphere, but what can I say, I'm adventurous. ;) Yes, this is a 24 hours a day, greasy Mexican place. For 7 years, I avoided this place like the plague (or like someone assuming this place would give you a plague) until my Latino/a friends said, "no man, it's good." They were right. It is surprisingly good. Yes, you're going to get some gristle, and yes, some of their items might hit you like a brick, but when eating it in moderation I feel full, satisfied, and all warm and fuzzy inside. On my inaugural trip, I had the carne asada smothered burrito. For $5 you get a huge burrito, rice, and beans. Definitely enough for two meals. Asada was good, but did have gristle. The smother sauce was abundant and delicious. They have tortas (sandwiches), burritos, plates, tacos, tostadas, enchiladas, etc. Their menu is large and there are lots of delicious and cheap things to choose from. Pancho's is perfect for a night cap or a fast food Mexican craving. It may not be perfect for speediness, your figure, or your intestines. Summary: Don't be scarrrrrrred. Try Pancho's. It's legit. It's cheap. And it's pretty damn good.

  • Sarah F.

I was craving either a delicious burger or crappy mexican food. Pancho's had a drive in: the winner was clear. At 8pm on a Monday the drive through was quick. I ordered a carne asada chimichanga. It is everything I wanted it to be, and more. Goopy mediocre costco-like guacamole, delicious meat, cheese, and sour cream with a deep fried tortilla. Heaven. If you want greasy, make your stomach regret it later, mexican food, this place is perfect. Oh god, it is perfect.

  • Rydog S.

If you are a fan of Jose Peppers or any other place that uses cream cheese in their sauces and tries to call it Mexican food...this place isn't for you stop leaving negative reviews - you don't get it. If you are a fan of authentic baja style Mexican food come on in. It is basically a taco shop that you would find on every corner in San Diego. The rolled tacos are fantastic as are the Panchos burrito and carne asada burritos The salsa bar is also good with the highlights being the pickled carrots and the spicy avocado salsa. Wash it all down with a horchata. It can be greasy because...no alarms and no surprises....it's Mexican food.

  • David A.

Haven't been there since I discovered Cancun's, however made a stop last night and ordered the Carne Asado tacos. Grissley and flavorless....the only reason they got 2 Stars was because the rice and beans were good!

Do yo' two-for-two-dollars-fried-burrito-eatin-ass a favor and get REALLY drunk AND stoned before coming here, make sure you got plenty of soft toilet paper at home, a good amount of imodium, some tums and the next day off work!

  • Steven J.

Cons: The meat is dry, tough and under-seasoned. They don't even have a red pork chili to speak of. The place could be cleaner. The shredded beef burrito is unseasoned and watery, yuk! The place is drab, dated and a little dirty. Pros: This is a working man's restaurant Portions are very large. Good value for the money. Huge parking lot! 24 hour drive-thru, hell yeah! The staff is pretty nice. I've never had a bad reaction to anything I've eaten here. The breakfast burritos are good. All in all a great midtown dive to fill your engine for cheap.

    (2)
  • Kelly G.

Not bad for a place open 24/7! The enchiladas were super cheesy..wouldn't recommend the guacamole though. I was hesitant at first because of the looks of the place, but the flavors are right! They also give you tons of extra hot sauces in several flavors. Chile relino was also great.

Incredible selection. This place brings Mexico to main street. If you want nachos they have it. But if you want stuff you never heard of then you must go here. Tasty tasty tasty.

  • Matt E.

A gut bomb. Don't get me wrong, a delicious gut bomb. But still, a gut bomb. I've never had Pancho's during the daylight hours. Heck, I've never had it sober. But after a night of drinking, nothing tastes finer than a Pancho's burrito. My go-to order is the Texano burrito, filled with chicken, sour cream, diced potato and cheese. It's ridiculous. They're very oozy and saucy, but they still manage to stay together and not cause a giant mess. I typically get a horchata on the side. It's not the best, but at 3 AM it hits the spot. Be warned, the drive through can be SLOWWWWWW. Don't go for a quick bite before you get home, especially if you have to use the bathroom. Use the bathroom at the bar, THEN go to Pancho's. Oh, and always use a designated driver.

  • DJuan L.

The food here was ok. It wasn't anything special, but it is a good place for the late night muchies. I had a fish taco that wasn't that fresh, but hey, what else can you expect at 1a.m.? I also had a burrito that was ok. There was a decent size line at the drive-thru, so if you're in a hurry you may not want to stop. I'd probably come back again and try something else on the menu. The prices are very reasonable here as well.

Great divey hole in the wall place! Love the drive through and them burritos. Don't let the facade fool you. Go right in or better still drive through :)

Takes me back to East LA and downtown Fresno. I love this place. The food is very satisfying and really quite good. Gringos hate it so that tells you how delicious it is! The service is best (mediocre) if the women are working. If its all men you'll find yourself standing at the counter for five minutes before they help you. Last time I left and got Kin Lin instead. I was really wanting Pancho's though. That's how bad it was. I'll be back though because it's awesome!

Great spot to grab a late night burrito. Pancho's is open 24 hours a day and dishes out some tasty and HUGE burritos. It's been a bit since I've gone (living in LS now, none close to me) but everything I've had there has been fresh and hot. Granted, my knowledge is limited to their burrito offerings. There's not much more to say about this place, honestly. No frills, cheap, delicious mexican food at any hour of the day. You'll end up paying less than $7 for a burrito and drink.

  • Chris H.

Probably ordered the wrong thing here based on all the good reviews but my chile relleno was bland and covered in the kind of guacomole that comes in a tub from Costco. The chewy flour tortilla that came on the side was good though and saved this from being a one-star review.

  • Meg L.

Some people should not go here. If you are uptight about your food and eating fancy food, keep on walkin. Yes, this place is an OLD Arby's or something, and its sure not a pretty joint, but DAYUM do they have tasty 3-4 dollar burritos...I seriously don't think you could order a bad one. The chicken one is allll chicken..I have always loved the California and Texano.... Aint fancy. Is tasty as hell.

It's a 24 hour operation in the heart of midtown. Don't expect a clean interior or high end cuisine here. It's greasy and inexpensive. My partner lived in Los Angeles for years and he was thrilled when we discovered Pancho's. It reminded him of the street food and some of the regional Mexican food in LA. He loves the food. I'm sure he would rate it 5 stars. Me, I have a harder time finding things that I just love here and I would rate it at 3 stars. Because of my love for my partner, I am going to combine our ratings and give it 4 stars! (if that isn't the sweetest gesture on a yelp review, then I'm at a loss of words....lol) Some of the highlights for me are the fish taco's, the guacamole and the best salsa bar which includes pickled jalapeno peppers with large carrots in the spicy marinade. The carrots alone are worth the price of an entree. The lighting will wake up any intoxicated person or it can bring a jaundice tone to the best complexion. It's harsh lighting with some loud music usually playing on a loop. The people watching makes all of these things tolerable. If the inside is too much to take, they have a drive thru that can help you avoid any thoughts of the "colorful" interior found at Pancho's.

I'm a sucker for Panchos. I eat here all the time. I have the mixed breakfast burrito on Thursday mornings and the Steak and Egg burrito on Fridays. On many Saturday afternoons I have to have the smothered burrito which is one of the most fabulous dishes ever dreamed up by a Mexican. The smothered burrito is a huge burrito stuffed with seasoned pork and then covered with a spicy salsa verde and a sprinkling of cheese, served with rice and beans. I love to pour cream salsa de aguacate over it (spicy avocado sauce). It is velvety and creamy and spicy (some say hot) and it throws that ding-dang burrito right over the cliff. Jeezyweezy! It's like riding a roller coaster of flavor it's soooooo dang good! The breakfast burritos are full of meat, potatoes, egg and cheese and usually keep me satisfied well into the afternoon. So listen, if you're all uptight and snooty about Mexican food, just keep jambalamba walkin' on by. What this joint lacks in ambience is more than made up in the quantity and tastiness of its vittles. It's also great for an after-bar chomp-down but if you've got a delicate gringo stomach, better pass on this here joint toute de suite (oops French...sorry). As someone else pointed out, gut bomb is kind of an appropriate moniker but...in a good way.

I'll put it this way: Utah has Beto's, Vegas has Roberto's and KC has Pancho's. It's every bit as good as the best taco shops out west and I'm VERY pleased I decided to give it a try! **I will note that this place and places like it are not really meant to be taken as "Fine Mexican Cuisine." It's a taco shop. Nothing more, but SO much more all at once.

  • Tim M.

The negative reviews are dumbfounding...great food cheap, relatively clean, salsa bar. Don't use the drive thru unless you have to...but I advise that anywhere. The carne asada burrito is unreal...actually they all are. Hangover food, for sure...docking one star because with such a huge menu, there should be more veggie options.

    (4)
  • Sara V.

The carrots make me swoon! The salsa bar featuring traditional pickled carrots and jalapeños, various blended salsas, radishes, limes. cucumbers and salsa cups is fantastic! The staff is consistent and bilingual. The restrooms are clean as is the dining room. Drive thru is slow late nights but the key is to go when the cops do the line is shockingly short .

I'll admit, I can't give a fair review of Pancho's, because I haven't experienced much of their menu. I keep going back and back (and back some more) because of that darned Texano burrito. It's so good I get cravings for it at least once a month. It's chicken, potatoes, cheese and sour cream in a soft burrito wrap, and I love it. The rest of the restaurant, though, is best experienced through beer goggles after a tour through Westport. I tend to be a day-time diner, though, and things like the beat-down interior and odd smells upon entry really stand out. To avoid those, I usually go through the drive-through, but their microphone manners are atrocious and have been for years. If you go through the drive through, you may wait a few minutes before hearing "scratch-crackle you." Confused, you'll order and hope they got it right, because they won't repeat the order back to you. They won't tell you the total. All you'll here is "Scraffle-scratch-click." It's bizarre and confusing. But the Texano is worth it.

Kansas City loves its late-night Mexican, and that's music to this Texan's ears, whose post-drinking food of choice definitely involves enchiladas. When I was told we should go to Pancho's, I immediately started humming the theme from a series of commercials local to Texas and other surrounding states ("raise the flag, raise the flag, you're ready for a little more Pancho's Mexican buffet"). When my friends informed me that no, this was unrelated, I was more than a bit relieved. "Mexican" and "buffet" are two words that should never go together. I went twice during my trip. The first experience was a Thursday night. The drive-through line was relatively short, but they're making up their food fresh with a little love so expect to wait. It's definitely not the best food I've ever had, but for 2am it's not half-damn bad. It tastes like something out of Grandma's kitchen. I got the #6 with rice, beans and cheese enchiladas as it's comfort food for me. Nothing takes care of a case of the drunchies like a combo platter. Saturday night was a different experience altogether. The line was long and ROWDY. One car kept losing occupants that ended up on our car at one point, and the coup de grace came with a piss in the trash bin. Keep all hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times and you'll be fine. I hope. Great for that greasy medicine that keeps the hangover at bay--but fortunately tastes much better than medicine. Well-played, KC. Well-played indeed.

Great, great cheap Mexican food! Carnitas are to die for, burritos weigh like a baby. This is nothing new from other reviews. But...I ate inside and was surprised at how bright, clean and friendly it is! Sounds horrible, but true! And, inside, there's a great condiment bar you can't get if you drive through. Check it out, folks! It's worth it!

You know in the movie "UP!" how the dogs react to the word "squirrel? Yeah, that's how my husband reacts to me when I say the word "Panchos." I don't have say it like it's a question (Panchos?) or even with excitement (Panchos!). I can merely look at him and whisper panchos and he will be putting his shoes on and grabbing his car keys. Why do we love it so much? It's hard to say. A piece of me thinks its about convenience. Drive thru? check. Late night hours? check. Super Nachos covered in pretty much every thing you could want or imagine? check. I guess the main reason is that there is an undeniable "homemade" quality to their food. You can tell they use actual ingredients and the food is made the actual people. Doubt me? order a chicken taco and you get chunks of chicken. I'm not talking bits of shredded chicken or nuggets of processed chicken like you get at Taco Bell. I'm taking chunks of chicken that look like they were freshly pulled from a chicken carcass just for your taco. This is an instance where the word "carcass" is a delicious word and not one that involves the west bottoms and the Edge of something or other. It's awesome. My husband likes the super nachos, california burrito and the chicken tacos. I like the rolled tacos, chicken tacos, enchiladas and tortas. Bear in mind, this is fast food. When you get enchiladas, they are not going to be melty and bubbly like they are in a regular restaurant. A little piece of me wonders about the food handling and sanitation issues that come with lukewarm enchilada sauce, but I figure I'm just building a tougher gastrointestinal fortitude. They used to carry a super tasty tres leches cake, but I think they stopped. That makes me sad, but it's not like I will stop going there or anything. Like all tacos, Pachos is really best in the early A.M., but be prepared for a decently long wait in the drive thru. I feel so bad for the employees that they have to endure the drunken transactions of the post-bar crowd. Panchos, I am sorry for what I did and I'm sorry you had to clean that up. I'm grossing myself out.

Amazing carnitas, tasty asada, and super crazy huge greasy flour tortillas. This is pretty close to what I think of when I think of getting Mexican food in southern California. I've never been to southern California, mind, but I've seen it on TV, so I'm basically an expert. Right? I was a regular at this joint years ago. Can't count the number of times I waited 30+ minutes in the drive-thru at 3am. It was practically a midtown rite of passage. Unfortunately, I have since moved outside Pancho's sphere of influence. It had been far too many years since I enjoyed their greasy fare, so I went for lunch the other day to make sure they were still bringing their A-game. I was not disappointed. The creamy green sauce is still the best.

Being that I'm a visitor, stuff like this is hard to rate. The reviews that compare this to "Alberto's" in the San Diego area are spot on. Everything about it tastes like Alberto's down to the hot sauce which tastes like water "infused" sambal oelek. Anyway, the stuff is just ok. I never realized it before eating it in Kansas City, but the carnitas burrito has a texture very similar to pulled pork. I theorize that this is why it gets rave reviews here! The nachos were also just ok, covered with a salty carne asada and the other toppings you'd expect. If this were Los Angeles, I'd give it two stars but it's not and the fact that it's open 24-hours makes it really stand out in this area. Furthermore, I don't think I've found anything similar in KC so a four-star rating might even be justified. If it's past midnight and you're hungry, I say try it but don't expect too much as I can really see the reactions go either way.

If you are what you eat, eating at Pancho's would make you fast, cheap, and greasy... But in no way is that a bad thing. Midnight burrito NEED?? Lucky you, Pancho's is open 24 hours!! I have enjoyed everything I have had, although the leftovers are greasy enough that you might have to put them in a styrofoam cup to avoid grease leakage. My boyfriend particularly likes the carne asada torta. The bean and cheese burrito is massive and delicious. Spicy guacamole is a must. And their horchata is very good too!! I'd give it a 5 star, but I have to knock one off for cleanliness. Or lack thereof. But what do you expect for cheap, fast deliciousness?

I will always support this place through thick and thin. If you're looking for something lighter try the tacos adobodas. When I say lighter I mean that this dish won't make you feel as bad after eating sayyy one of their burritos. Sometimes if you go on the right night you can hear them singing in the kitchen.

Funny - all the negative reviews are from drunks..errr I mean "INTOXICATED" patrons (said with my nose up) who get sick from eating greasy Mexican Food? Imagine that!!! Or they're snooties expecting the Belagio or something. It's an old, non-updated, crappy 'Happy Star' converted to taqueria. THIS place has the best tasting Mexican food around if you know what good Mexican food is. I'm not talking Americanized, spring-break in Cancoon, tourist food; I'm talking walking-the-streets-of-Rosa-Rita, true family owned taco stand, cooked-by-pancho-villa's-wife-herself, good. It's NOT the kind of place you take your family for Dine-In. Go in, order it to go, take it home in styro, and eat it at home. Place is like walking into a Mexican (In Mexico) Diner. It is what it is. BEST CHILE VERDE on the planet. Get the Chile Verde Burrito MEAL. You wont be sorry. I live in FL now, and what I wouldn't give for ANYTHING that even came close to comparing to Panchos. Vive El Pancho's!

I finally found Mexican food.... whoohoo... I've been in Kansa City for like a month and craving for food like home in San Diego California. Eating at Pancho's made it feel like back HOME. Thank you Pancho's for opening a mexican shop here in Kansas City.

Great food when you're under the influence of something! The chicken burrito is my favorite. Just yummy chicken in red sauce, wrapped in a fresh tortilla. The absolute best thing that Pancho's serve is their delicious avocado hot sauce. I don't even know if that's what it's called, but when I drunkenly yell that into the drive-thru speaker from the passenger seat, they always seem to know exactly what I want. It taste like sweet, spicy guacamole except it's the perfect consistency to dip my burrito in. I don't really like any of the other burritos. I'm not a fan of their peppers or potatoes, but everyone I go with seems to love them. So take that for what it's worth. The breakfast burritos are hit or miss. But they get points for serving them all day. I've only been there once while sober, and it sucked. So I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place unless you're going to hazily remember getting it anyway.

YUM! I usually get the fish or carne asada. Drive-thru isn't the fastest, but the outcome is worth the wait... always. If you go inside, you get a bar of different sauces than are given you in the drive-thru. + they usually have some sort of pickled veggies to chose from.

Some of the food here is horrible, and I've had people tell me "it's only good when you're drunk," (not true). Many dishes are good. Greasy, sure, but it's also very quick. Prices are a little steep, seeing as they're the same as a sit-down restaurant with real plates and wait staff, but when I'm craving Mexican and want something quick or really late at night this is perfect. Carnitas tacos, shredded beef tacos, chimichangas and enchiladas are all good, as are the green and red sauces and the avocado sauce.

The food was OVERPRICED, NASTY, the restaurant and restroom was so dirty I would not go there. I would advice for someone to go some where else.

Man, I really wanted to like Pancho's. I really wanted to find a burrito I could call "amazing" here in KC. Really. You have no idea. Instead, I am still looking for "the one." The burrito that brings me back to my old tacqueria happiness, the one that will make me forget I'm in the midwest...sigh... I was told by a co-worker (a fellow Californian) that Pancho's is the place, he hasn't found anything better. This made me hopeful, though I knew to be a little wary. Well, I found out the main difference between North and South California...the burrito. This place is San Diego style, not San Francisco. Meaning, no rice and beans. No rice and beans?? The whole idea blew my mind--how are you supposed to eat it without? I ordered my carne asada burrito, and it was exploding with meat. If you're a hard-core carnivore, you will love Pancho's. If you like meat, but don't love eating half a pound of steak in a meal, you might feel overwhelmed like I did. I ended up picking out the steak towards the end of my meal. Too much people! My other beef with this place, no free chips! And their salsa containers were a little bigger than a thimble. Really. I'm a salsa whore and found this disturbing--and I'm sure the people waiting for me to finish were disturbed as well. Filling each tiny cup felt more like a chore than a privilege. But despite this review, I will be back because the tortilla's were amazing. Next time I'm ordering the vegetarian burrito and insist on making it Northern California style. Oh, and I'm also bringing my own bowl for the salsa...

I don't know what the complaints are for - I went today at noon for lunch, and opted to eat-in, as I am car-less, and found it neither strong-smelling nor dirty. Menu had plenty of options though, as I was a little disappointed to find, no vegetarian burrito. I ordered the grilled chicken burrito (chicken, onions, green bell peppers, sour cream, and lettuce) and I'd probably rate it 3 points. The grilled chicken was sort of "meh" by itself, and I could have done without the lettuce, as it got very hot and wilted. But the tortilla was, as others have said, really amazing! Seemed like they were maybe handmade, even. Also being from Northern California, I do love rice and beans in my burrito, so I missed them a little, but it was pretty good nonetheless. I could have ordered on the side, and they looked delish, but I wasn't THAT hungry. Final note: horchata. I love this stuff like you wouldn't believe, and the stuff they have here is a little too sweet, but the flavor was good. Tasted like slightly cinnamony vanilla pudding, basically. Yum!

Don't compare Panchos to food in LA or SoCal.It's an insult. 10 bucks for nachos with tasteless meat and a pepsi? GTFO. Go to Taqueria Silvas. Their food is better and CHEAPER! Only bad thing about silvas is they're only open mon-sat 9-5 so no drunk fix there. unless it's from 9-5. The search for the best mex food in KC continues...

I've never had a carnitas burrito any better. The tortillas are incredible and I can tell you why in one word LARD, sweet succulent unctuous pigfat. Add the fact that you can get it 24 hours a day and its over. I don't know how authentic it is, I've eaten in Mexico several times and not in resorts either and not had anything better. I guess if they were selling burritos off the back of a burro with a sombrero on it could be better

The Carne Asada burrito here is INSANE. Even more insane is the tortilla they put the meat in. It must be made with some sort of Dow chemical stuff. I mean, it's HUGE. And keep in mind, the carne asada thrown into this doomsday device perfectly holds all of the meat in. It does not get soggy, and it holds it together perfectly. The carne asada burrito here is one of those lights-out dishes. You can eat it for lunch, and by the time you get to the office, you are in a full-fleged diabetic coma. I have had people allegedly claim they have heard snoring at my desk after going to this place. Nonetheless I have only dared to eat here for lunch three times. Did i also mention it's $3.95? that's cheaper than a few entree's at plenty of fast food resturants. I've never had anything else here except the "new and improved" cheese dip. last week my co-workers and I went over there to pick up a to go order, and absolutely annihilated this dip. Open 24 hours. There is no excuse for you not to give it a try. Oh, and one more thing, like the majority of hole in the wall mexican joints, this place will make you reek like the kitchen. Stick to the drive-thru.

I moved here from Phoenix, AZ, and this is where I go to get my burrito fix! I am absolutely addicted to the Machaca Burrito, and both the green and red sauces are delectable. I love that they have a drive through, and even though it takes a bit to get your food, it is definitely worth the wait.

The food is really good, and the tortillas, as most people have said, are wonderful. However, I'm pretty sure everything is made with pork lard. Even the tortillas. I also get the feeling that the chips are fried in pork lard too. I guess that's fine, but it kinda creeps me out.

As a Kansas City greenhorn, I'd fall into despair when out late and hungry. Then I found Pancho's: love at first bite! Burritos are where it's at here, as far as I'm concerned. Every time, I drive through and am impressed at what a friendly encounter can be had in the short time it takes to "check out." And I've been happiest with carne asada and other meaty burritos (please don't pay attention to that San Franmciscan and skimp on the meat: I lived in SF for 15 years, and am more than happy to order their fine refried beans and rice on the side when the spirit moves me). I tried the chile relleno, and while it was all right, I found it a little watery and less flavorful; show me the beef! I have sometimes regretted eating the whole thing, as they used to say in Alka-Seltzer ads -- never more than when I could not stop my mouth from destroying an entire chimichanga burrito: OMG! I was lucky the next day was Sunday. With that caveat, drive on down (I've never gone in, which seems not to be an option with the late hours I keep), and you'll never go to a chain again. (Well, my new housemate has taught me that's not exactly true; but I think Pancho's is his favorite, too.)

This place is different...and ALWAYS open...which is a considerable perk being so close to the bars and everything. And it does make for great after bar food... BUT, sometimes after I eat here, I get kind of queasy, you know what I mean? I get that -I'm going to pay for this- feeling after I eat here, which worries me. I have a friend that drags me here too often, and together we get the chicken quesadillas. The cheese is WONDERFUL, they should sell the stuff and the tortillas are very well made and taste great. I fear, and I'm pretty sure, it's the quality of their meat that isn't tops. Last time I ate there, my chicken quesadilla had a whole chicken breast stuffed inside, uncut and nauseating. I just took it out, because it was really gross, but the rest of it was great! My advice: ask for "the chicken quesadilla without the chicken but with the same cheese it would have been made with" (if you say "a cheese quesadilla," they'll give you a tortilla with melted shredded cheese inside which is NOT what you want!) Hit or miss, definitely try it and good luck with your stomach!

This is the best place for late night munches... I actually crave this place after several beers... Try the Adovada tacos, it is almost better than sex. I don't want to know how they make them and I hope is pork as they advertise. One more thing, never use the restroom. I think their secret is how dirty they are!!

    (5)
  • Lannette G.

Let's keep this simple. Don't ever eat inside you might not ever want to come back (dirty). So stick to the drive thru. The tacos are tasty, if your up for it try tacos de adobada and try the green sauce not the one that you see in the grocery store but Panchos homemade green sauce. If you've hit the bars and are craving that 4th hour meal this is the place to stop at.

All our power went out in our house the other day during a 2-minute storm. That's what you get for living in an old house in Hyde Park. That being said, there was an upside. As soon as my friends and I realized that we couldn't make dinner, we decided on the next best thing--Pancho's. Having been here a few times (and one of my friends, having been here almost weekly for years during his KC college life) we are all ecstatic fan. Personally, I'm not as enthused about eating inside because I find it a little... stale. BUT, the food is certainly not. The chips and guacamole are to die for. But my all-time favorite there is the chile relleno burrito. It's unanimous among everyone I know, that Pancho's must put something addictive in their homemade tortillas because they are the best I've ever had. I can't speak for the other burritos, which my friends assure me are good because they mostly have meat, but the chile relleno burrito is fabulous. I'm craving one now just thinking about it. Don't get distracted by the enchiladas or tacos. Burritos all the way and I usually don't like burritos that much--especially when they are filled with cheap fillers like rice & beans... Pancho's does burritos old-school without those fillers. I mean, if you still want them, you can get them as sides, but I find them wholly unnecessary and detracting. Just eat the burrito, okay?

i could write a book on all the incidents i've had with this place. or at least a multi-paged pamphlet. when Pancho's first opened a buddy talked me into going. it was 3am. we were drunk. so there wasn't much arm twisting. we pulled up to the drive-thru menu, which displays a plethoramungous of food items. i wasn't in a decision making mood so i went with my friends recommendation. "2 chorizo-egg burritos, por favor". we pulled around. i paid the senor and he handed me our bag. at first i thought i had the wrong order but realized we were the only ones in line. the 2-$4.00 burritos might as well have been a small child. holy shit they're giant (i think they might've even double bagged 'em). anyway, we drove off and i took him to his car. i then headed over to my girlfriend's house to eat. i could only finish half of it, though. when i finished i wasn't sure if i had eaten it or just smashed it all over my face. we crashed. around 7am i suddenly woke up. hmm, i thought. why i am up so early? i've only been asleep 4 hours. i closed my eyes again and then it hit me. the burrito that is. like a giant bag of concrete it turned over in my stomach. WHAT THE FCUK? quickly i headed towards the bathroom. i sat down and soon realized how quiet it was in my girlfriends teeny-tiny, attic apartment. we'd only been hanging out for 2 months, which was definitely not long enough for me to do what i was gettin' ready to do. i really liked this girl. she was cool and her bathroom was pretty. about this time she's knocking at the door asking if i'm ok. i told her i was fine but i needed to leave. and i left. so i straight leg it down three flights of stairs to the car and noticed my feet going numb. not a good sign. i get into the car, take a deep breath, and regain control. not for long, though. my stomach begins flip-floppin' like a crummy carnival ride missin' a handful of screws. now i'm driving, and on one cheek. everywhere i look all i can think was, "god, i could shit right there. i could shit right there. i could shit there." a cold sweat comes over me and i begin running stop lights. i make it to my street and like a horse spotting the barn i see my apartment. i park. jump out (hoping not to see any neighbors) and while unstrapping my belt, i straight leg up the stairs (brownie points- no pun intended -for multitasking). i'm now at my door and my hands are shaking. my mind says hang on but my body says fcuk you...NOW! may-day. may-day. i'm goin' down. folks, that was all she wrote. long story short... i ruined a shower curtain and a pair of khakis. i called my buddy and he asks if i'm ok. if i'm calling at 8 o'clock on a saturday morning i must be in jail. NO, I AM NOT IN JAIL AND I AM DEFINITELY NOT "OK". i tell him what happened, and he's like, "oh yeah. i guess i should've warned you about that." i didn't return to Pancho's for almost 2 years. then someone turned me onto their shredded beef tacos. they were good but, more importantly, i didn't get butt sick from eating them. so i will return again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
